We Strike Again!!! : Future Alternative Fuel For Sustainability
The 4th Chem-E-Car Competition 2009 organised by the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) saw University Kuala Lumpur Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering Technology (UniKL MICET) seized the first place by its invention of MICET-E Car. This annual competition was held on March 5, 2009 at UniKL MICET, Taboh Naning, Melaka. As a co-host, UniKL was proud to take part in this national competition as an effort to promote the discipline of chemical engineering. This competition is a positive platform for chemical engineering undergraduates to show their creativity and innovativeness in utilizing their knowledge.

Seven local universities participated in this competition including UniKL. These universities namely Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknikal MARA and Universiti Teknologi Petronas. YB. Dato’ Noh bin Haji Omar, Minister of Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development (MeCD), was represented by the Chairman of UniKL Board of Directors, YBhg. Dato’ Haji Mohamad Rais Haji Zainuddin, Chairman, Board of Directors UniKL, in the officiating ceremony.

The officiating speech highlighted MeCD’s commitment in giving continuous support for efforts taken by institutions to involved students from higher learning institutions (IPTA/IPTS) in events that will develop their creativity and innovativeness. According to the Ministry, this efforts are vital due to the impending depletion of natural resources. Thus, the Ministry urged the younger generation to apply their knowledge to the highest peak in researching and producing new resources and invention for alternative fuel. Events such as this will enable students to commercialise their invention.

This competition was organised and sponsored by IEM since 2005. IEM will reward the winning team of CHEM-E-CAR car competition by sponsoring them to the upcoming 8th World Chemical Engineering Congress which will commence in August, 2009 at Montreal, Canada. This particular event is the most anticipated competition in chemical engineering.
